• A high-endurance microSD card of at least 64-128GB
• A G-sensor that saves footage automatically on impact
• Emergency lock so important clips aren't overwritten

Fitting it yourself is possible, but it goes wrong in predictable ways.

A tracker and dash cam need a little looking after, especially in UAE conditions.

Every month, check the cameras. Clean the lenses with a microfibre cloth, because dust and sand build up. Make sure the camera is actually recording, that parking mode kicks in when the vehicle is off, and that playback is clear and saved properly. Check the mounting too, since heat weakens the adhesive over time.

Check the tracker monthly as well. Confirm live tracking works in the app, test that alerts are arriving, look at device status (battery, signal strength and data usage) and glance at the reports to be sure data is coming in.

Every 2-3 months, format the SD card in the camera itself (not on a computer). That prevents file corruption and slowdowns, and it keeps loop recording reliable.

Every 6 months:

• Update the firmware from the manufacturer's website, or turn on auto-update
• Have a professional check that all connections are still secure
• Check the heat protection, especially before summer
• Check the adhesive and remount the camera if it's loosening

Will a GPS tracker drain my car battery?

No, not with professional installation, which includes battery protection circuits. Trackers draw very little power (0.02-0.05 amps), and modern vehicles handle that easily. If you're leaving the car for 30 days or more, disconnect the battery or use a trickle charger.

Can I install a car tracker and dash camera myself?

You can, but we'd strongly recommend professional installation. You get proper electrical connections that won't damage the vehicle, well-placed cameras, compliance with insurance certification, a valid warranty, hardwired parking mode and a hidden tracker. Will a dashcam work in 50°C+ UAE summer heat?

It depends on the card size and video quality:

Can I use dashcam footage as evidence in the UAE?

Yes. Dubai Police and Sharjah Police accept dashcam footage. Submit it through official channels only: the "We Are All Police" app in Dubai, police hotlines such as Al Ameen on 800 4888, or in person at a police station. Never post it on social media. That can bring a fine of AED 150,000-500,000 and prison.

Do I really need front and rear cameras?

We'd strongly recommend both. The rear camera records rear-end collisions (which are very common), tailgating before a crash, car park hit-and-runs, staged-collision fraud and the plates of vehicles behind you. Light vehicles are involved in 68% of major crashes in the UAE, many of them rear-end collisions, so a front-only camera misses a lot of the evidence.

Will I get an insurance discount with a car tracker?

Can someone jam or disable my GPS tracker?
