FLEET CO2 CALCULATOR

How do you calculate a fleet's CO2 emissions?

Multiply litres of fuel burned by the fuel's emission factor: 2.68 kg CO2e per litre of diesel or 2.31 kg CO2e per litre of petrol (DEFRA/IPCC combustion factors). A 25-van UAE delivery fleet driving 3,500 km per vehicle monthly at 12 L/100km emits roughly 338 tonnes of CO2e per year. GPS telematics typically cuts this 13-18% through idling reduction, route optimisation and eco-driving coaching — relevant since UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2024 requires businesses to measure and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

How the numbers are calculated

Fuel-based calculation — the most accurate GHG accounting method when fuel data is known. Every factor is standard, editable and sourced.

Estimates are for planning and awareness. For formal GHG disclosure under UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2024, use metered fuel data and confirm reporting scope with MOCCAE.

Fleet CO₂ Calculator — FAQ

The calculator multiplies your fleet's monthly fuel consumption (distance × consumption per vehicle × number of vehicles) by standard fuel combustion emission factors: 2.68 kg CO2e per litre of diesel and 2.31 kg CO2e per litre of petrol (DEFRA/IPCC factors). This is the same fuel-based method used for Scope 1 emissions in corporate GHG reporting — if you know your total fuel purchased, fuel-based calculation is the most accurate method available.
The UAE's climate law, Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2024, came into force on 30 May 2025 and requires entities operating in the UAE to measure, report and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, with penalties for non-compliance. Fleet fuel is Scope 1 (direct) emissions — usually the largest share for transport and logistics companies. Confirm the exact scope and thresholds that apply to your business with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE).
GPS telematics typically cuts fleet fuel consumption — and therefore CO2 emissions — by 13-18%: excessive idling reduction saves around 7% (documented range 5-10%), route optimisation around 6% (range 5-8%), and eco-driving coaching through driver behaviour monitoring adds around 5% (range 5-10%). Because emissions are directly proportional to litres burned, every percent of fuel saved is a percent of CO2 avoided — and money saved at the pump.
A 25-vehicle diesel van fleet driving 3,500 km per vehicle per month at 12 L/100km burns about 10,500 litres monthly, which is roughly 338 tonnes of CO2e per year — about 13.5 tonnes per van. A heavy truck fleet emits far more: one truck at 35 L/100km and 6,000 km per month produces about 67 tonnes of CO2e per year on its own.
