How do you score and rank fleet drivers from telematics data?

Normalise each driver's events per 100 km so long-haul and short-route drivers compare fairly, then deduct weighted penalties from 100: speeding 35%, harsh braking 20%, harsh acceleration 15%, harsh cornering 10% and idling 20%, each capped at a benchmark rate (4 speeding events, 5 harsh brakes, 5 harsh accelerations, 4 harsh corners or 30 idling minutes per 100 km loses the full weight). Grade A is 90+, B 80+, C 70+, D 60+, F below. A score of 80 is the usual target for incentives; drivers below 60 or with any phone-use or seat-belt event are retrained before their next shift. This tool applies that method to any CSV export in the browser; telematics platforms with driver ID do it continuously.

Benchmarks reflect common insurer and OEM telematics thresholds for light commercial fleets on UAE roads; heavy-vehicle fleets often halve the harsh-event benchmarks. Idling counts minutes with ignition on and no movement.

Driver Scorecard — FAQ

Each driver's events are summed across all rows, divided by distance and expressed per 100 km. For every metric the penalty is weight × min(1, rate ÷ benchmark): speeding events loses up to 35 points, all of it at 4 per 100 km; harsh braking loses up to 20 points, all of it at 5 per 100 km; harsh acceleration loses up to 15 points, all of it at 5 per 100 km; harsh cornering loses up to 10 points, all of it at 4 per 100 km; idling loses up to 20 points, all of it at 30 min per 100 km. Score = 100 − total penalty. Weights are adjustable and are re-normalised so metrics missing from your file do not drag scores down. The fleet score is the km-weighted average.
Any comma, semicolon or tab-separated file with a header row. Column names are matched by keyword — "driver" or "name", "km" or "distance", "speed", "brak", "accel", "corner" or "turn", "idle" — and you can correct the mapping by hand. Per-trip and per-day rows are aggregated per driver automatically, so a raw trip export works as well as a monthly summary. Exports from IOTee, Geotab, Samsara, Wialon, Teltonika FMB devices, GPSGate and spreadsheet tools all work.
No. Parsing and scoring run in your browser with JavaScript; nothing is sent to IOTee or any server. Closing the tab clears it. Driver names are personal data under UAE Federal Decree-Law 45/2021 — keep the exported scorecard in your HR system, not in email threads.
A (90+): excellent — recognise. B (80+): good — on target. C (70+): fair — coach. D (60+): poor — formal warning. F (0+): unsafe — retrain before next shift. Insurers and large fleets typically set 80 as the threshold for incentives and 60 as the trigger for retraining. The single biggest lever is usually speeding, which also carries the highest UAE fines and black points.
