Finding this a week late? A fuel sensor alerts you the minute the level drops — fuel monitoring · get an instant quote.

Per-vehicle findings

Vehicles, drains, refuels and L/100 km appear here.

Works with level exports from any fuel sensor platform (IOTee, Wialon, Teltonika, Omnicomm, Technoton), daily dipstick sheets or fuel-card reconciliation files — any file with a fuel-level column.

FUEL THEFT DETECTION

How do you detect fuel theft from a fuel log?

Sort each vehicle's fuel-level readings by time and compare every drop with the distance driven in between. Expected burn is km × L/100 km; a drop that exceeds it by 10 L or more — and by more than half again — is a drain, not consumption. Drains with zero km moved are siphoning while parked, the most common UAE pattern (night, yard or labour-camp parking). Rises count as refuels and should match the pump receipt; a vehicle whose litres per 100 km sits 25% above the fleet median is a card-misuse or idling suspect. This tool applies those rules to any CSV in the browser; a fuel sensor on the tracker applies them every minute and alerts with location.

Five signs of fuel theft and what each looks like in the data

Last reviewed 2026-10-11. Thresholds: drain ≥ 10 L, refuel ≥ 5 L, outlier +25% — all editable.

Fuel Theft Detector — FAQ

Between two consecutive readings of the same vehicle it compares the fuel drop with the distance driven. Expected burn is km × L/100 km (default 12, editable). If the unexplained part is at least 10 L and the drop is more than 1.5× what the distance explains, it is listed as a drain with the litres, the time and the km moved. Without an odometer column every drop above the threshold is listed for you to verify against trips.
Any comma, semicolon or tab-separated export with a header row and a fuel-level column (litres or %). Vehicle, date/time and odometer columns are optional but make results far better. Headers are matched by keyword — vehicle: veh/plate/unit/asset/truck/reg; time: time/date/stamp; level: level/fuel/litre/liter/tank/volume/%; odometer: odo/km/distance/mileage/kilomet — and can be corrected by hand. Dates in ISO or DD/MM/YYYY HH:mm are sorted automatically.
A level drop with no movement (siphoning while parked, usually at night or at the yard), a refuel smaller than the pump receipt (partial fills with the difference sold on), a vehicle consistently burning 25% or more above the fleet median for the same class (card used for other vehicles, or idling with the AC on), and refuels at odd hours or far from the route. The tool surfaces the first three from the log; a GPS trail answers the fourth.
Capacitive sensors calibrated to the tank are accurate to about ±1–2% of tank volume, so a 10 L threshold on an 80 L tank is well above noise. Float gauges on the CAN bus are coarser (±5%) and sloshing on slopes adds short spikes — the thresholds exist to ignore those. Dipstick sheets depend on the person; keep readings at the same time of day on level ground.
A fuel sensor connected to the GPS tracker reports level every minute. The platform raises a drain alert within minutes when the level falls faster than consumption, with location, and reconciles every refuel against the card transaction. IOTee installs capacitive sensors and LV-CAN readers across the UAE from AED 750 per vehicle in the first year.
